Tokayev emphasized that parliamentary reform is an issue that directly affects the fate of the country and its people.

“Today we are holding the first meeting of the working group on parliamentary reform. As you know, last week I signed a decree establishing this special group. Parliamentary reform is an extremely important and responsible task facing our country. In my Address to the Nation, I clearly stated that this issue requires broad discussion within civil society, the expert community, and Parliament,” said President Tokayev.

He noted that the first meeting brought together representatives of Parliament, the Presidential Administration, the Government, political parties, legal experts, scholars, and public figures.

“All of them are well-known citizens of our country and experts in various fields. I want to emphasize once again: parliamentary reform is a matter that directly concerns the destiny of our nation. I am confident that every member of the working group, fully aware of their historic mission, will make every effort to work actively,” Tokayev said.

The President also noted that the transition to a unicameral Parliament is fully in line with international trends.
