Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has instructed officials to urgently address traffic congestion in Astana.
During the extended government meeting, Astana akim (governor) Zhenis Kassymbek delivered a report, after which Tokayev emphasized the need for significant efforts to improve the capital and address pressing issues.
"Overall, the mayor is working efficiently and has experience. However, traffic congestion remains a pressing issue for the city, and urgent measures must be taken. Another key task is the construction of processing plants, which applies to all major cities and regions. The quality of new housing, the development of underground infrastructure, and maintenance work must also be under strict control," Tokayev stated.
An extended government meeting is taking place in Astana with the participation of the Head of State. Officials will review the country's socio-economic development results for 2024 and outline key priorities for the near future. Presentations will be given by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov, and several regional akims (governors).
Earleir, the capital's akim spoke about the progress of construction of the light rail transit (LRT) system.
