Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev responded to a question about who he believes should be responsible for building a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan if the public supports the idea in the ongoing referendum.
After casting his vote in the nuclear power plant referendum, President Tokayev spoke to journalists at a press briefing.
"If the results of the referendum show that our citizens support the construction of a nuclear power plant, which country will be responsible for building it?" asked a Tengrinews.kz correspondent.
The president emphasized that if the decision is in favor of the project, the government will need to conduct a thorough analysis.
"This is not a simple question. The government must conduct an analysis and hold appropriate negotiations. But my personal vision is that an international consortium, consisting of global companies with the most advanced technologies, should operate in Kazakhstan. And then, as they say, time will tell," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev responded.
As a reminder, the referendum ballot asks Kazakhstan's citizens one question: "Do you agree with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?" The two possible answers are: "Yes, I agree" or "No, I do not agree."
