Tengrinews.kz — The Head of State named Kazakhstan’s most significant scientific achievement of the past year. He made the statement at an award ceremony for scientists in Astana, according to Akorda.
The President described the development of applied science as an exceptionally important task for Kazakhstan, and said that the growing number of projects in this field is a very positive sign.
“First of all, it is worth noting that universities are now turning into technological hubs. For example, last year, doctors at the University Medical Center Heart Center created a unique development — the innovative medical device ALEM (Astana Life Ex-situ Machine), which can rightfully be called the most significant scientific achievement of 2025. This device makes it possible to maintain the functionality of a donor organ outside the human body for more than 24 hours. Such unique breakthroughs demonstrate the high potential of Kazakh science,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted.
At the same time, according to the Head of State, many unresolved problems remain in this area.
“As you know, in March I visited Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where I discussed a number of issues with representatives of the scientific community. First and foremost, I emphasized the need for strict discipline and clear prioritization in science funding. The main goal should not be the nominal spending of budget funds, but the implementation of projects that benefit society,” he added.
