Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the President of the Asian Development Bank, Masatsugu Asakawa, who arrived in Astana to participate in the 23rd Ministerial Conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation.
The head of state congratulated the guest on the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's fruitful cooperation with ADB. According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kazakhstan highly values the strategic nature of its partnership with the bank and its contribution to the implementation of major infrastructure projects and the strengthening of the national financial system.
"From 1994 to 2024, ADB financed projects in Kazakhstan worth about 7 billion dollars. In particular, the bank was involved in the construction of the international transport corridor Western Europe – Western China and the reconstruction of the Aktobe – Kandyagash road.
The President emphasized the importance of further joint activities in new priority areas. He mentioned that work continues in Kazakhstan on liberalizing the economy, improving the investment climate, and creating conditions to unlock the country’s economic potential. One of the promising areas of cooperation, the Head of State noted, is the decarbonization of the economy," the Akorda statement reads.

Masatsugu Asakawa emphasized that ADB welcomes Kazakhstan's achievements in economic reforms and sustainable development.
He assured that the bank is ready to continue close cooperation, including participation in major projects aimed at modernizing infrastructure, improving the social sector, and strengthening the investment climate.
During the ADB president’s visit, an agreement will also be signed to finance the construction of the Kyzylorda – Zhezkazgan highway project, worth more than 300 million dollars.
