Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is on a working visit to Shanghai, met with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
As the Head of State emphasized, Kazakhstan views Thailand as one of its key partners in Southeast Asia. The President highly assessed the prospects for economic cooperation. In the first four months of 2026, trade turnover increased by 76 percent compared to last year, exceeding $110 million.
According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, this figure can be significantly increased, primarily through supplies of agricultural products. In order to create favorable conditions for entrepreneurs, the Head of State proposed stepping up cooperation between the governments of the two countries.
Tourism is one of the promising areas of cooperation. Thailand has traditionally been among the most popular destinations for citizens of Kazakhstan. In 2025 alone, more than 150,000 Kazakhstanis visited the country. Kazakhstan can also offer Thai residents unique leisure opportunities, including winter tourism.

For his part, Anutin Charnvirakul stated that his country is interested in expanding cooperation across a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
According to him, Bangkok considers it important to give new momentum to cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, digitalization and tourism.

At the end of the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.
Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the opening ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, dedicated to the theme “Partnership in Artificial Intelligence for a Brighter Future.” In his speech, the Head of State noted that the conference reflects China’s outstanding achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.
