The Head of State sent a telegram of condolences to the acting President of the Republic of Korea Choi Sang-mok.

"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received the news of numerous casualties as a result of the plane crash at Muan Airport with deep sorrow. The President expressed his sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery," the press service of Akorda noted.

Earlier, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by Jeju Air was on a flight from Bangkok to Muan when it crashed while landing at Muan Airport at 9:07 A.M. local time. The aircraft overshot the runway and collided with a barrier, resulting in a fire.

There were 181 people on board the Jeju Air plane, returning from Bangkok, including six crew members. Most of the passengers were Korean citizens, with the exception of two Thai citizens. According to the latest data, 176 people died in the plane crash. It was also previously reported that two people were rescued: one crew member and one passenger.
