Tengrinews.kz — Speaking at a ceremonial event dedicated to Republic Day, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev elaborated on the upcoming constitutional amendments, according to Akorda.

The Head of State noted that Kazakhstan has entered a period of large-scale modernization aimed at building a Just Kazakhstan — a country of opportunity and progress.

“In my recent Address, I announced the launch of a parliamentary reform. The early announcement of this initiative demonstrates the transparency of political processes in our country. The transformation of the legislative branch will become a logical continuation of the wide-ranging reforms implemented in recent years,” Tokayev said.

According to the President, all proposed changes are based on the interests and expectations of citizens seeking evolutionary development of Kazakhstan.

“There is no doubt that our country must continue to move forward. The planned reforms will strengthen the powers and authority of Parliament,” he emphasized.

Tokayev also clarified that the constitutional amendments will not only affect Parliament, but also the sections concerning the President, the Government, and other key aspects of the political system.

“In terms of scope — and considering the initiatives already implemented under the 2022 constitutional reform — these changes are comparable to adopting a new Constitution,” he stated.

At the same time, the President stressed that Kazakhstan must remain a state with a strong presidential system.

“This is essential to ensure a stable future for our country in an unpredictable world, where parliamentary systems often fail to fulfill their purpose in maintaining security, order, and development. We cannot afford to risk our nationhood or blindly follow superficial concepts promoted by certain experts or politicians,” Tokayev added.

Earlier today, President Tokayev described October 25, Republic Day, as a “sacred date” and emphasized that Kazakhstan is only at the beginning of a very challenging journey.
