Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated Karol Tadeusz Nawrocki on his election as President of Poland, according to a message from Akorda.
“I sincerely wish you success in implementing your planned initiatives aimed at ensuring the socio-economic development of the country and improving the well-being of its people. I reaffirm my readiness to work together to further strengthen the relations between Kazakhstan and Poland, which are developing in the spirit of traditional friendship and mutual understanding,” the telegram stated.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also wished Karol Tadeusz Nawrocki success in his responsible public service, and extended wishes of prosperity and well-being to the friendly Polish people.
Previously, the post of President of Poland was held by Andrzej Duda.
In the first round of the presidential election held on Sunday, May 18, none of the 13 candidates secured the required majority of 50%.
According to official results, Nawrocki received 10,606,877 votes (50.89%), while his opponent, Warsaw mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, received 10,237,286 votes (49.11%).
The head of the State Election Commission noted that the voting process was peaceful, with only a small number of violations recorded.
Under Polish law, the Supreme Court of Poland must confirm the validity of the election results within 30 days.
The 42-year-old Nawrocki is a historian, director of the Institute of National Remembrance, and a political newcomer. During the campaign, he ran under the slogan “Poland First.”
The President of Poland is elected for a five-year term. The head of state influences foreign policy, appoints the Prime Minister and cabinet members, and acts as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces in wartime.
