Tengrinews.kz - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called for urgent measures to restore order at the country’s resorts and hold responsible officials accountable, according to a statement from presidential advisor and press secretary Ruslan Zheldibay.

“In response to numerous complaints from citizens, the Head of State drew the government's attention to the poor state of readiness of the popular tourist area around Lake Alakol. The region lacks essential tourism infrastructure, proper service, and adequate safety,” Zheldibay wrote on Telegram.

The government has been instructed to urgently bring tourist destinations across the country into proper condition and identify and prosecute the officials responsible.

As a reminder, in January, during an extended government meeting, Tokayev stated that tourism development in Kazakhstan was lagging behind.

“This is a task that requires an urgent solution. Tourism should become a new point of economic growth. We are lagging behind here, the results of our work are not very good,” the president said.

According to Tokayev, every region of the country has attractive tourist sites. Both international and domestic travelers are interested in visiting Kazakhstan’s unique nature reserves, and the necessary infrastructure must be built without delay, including through private investment.
