Tengrinews.kz – Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced deep reforms in Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces, citing Akorda.
The President emphasized that Kazakhstan is a peace-loving state that honors the past and places great hopes on the future.
“We are convinced that all conflicts must be resolved through diplomatic means and negotiations. However, if necessary, we are ready to defend our interests not only through diplomacy but also from tougher positions. We believe that the principles and norms of international law must be strictly observed. Kazakhstan will continue to strengthen friendly relations with all countries of the world. These immutable principles are clearly enshrined in our new Constitution,” he said.
However, this does not mean that the country can sit idle, the Head of State stressed.
“Our country must be ready to prevent various challenges and repel any threats. Therefore, we need to increase our defense potential and continue, first and foremost, the technological modernization of the Armed Forces. This is a requirement of today’s unstable and turbulent times. In view of this, it is necessary first of all to carry out deep reforms in our Armed Forces and paramilitary structures,” the President said during a ceremony marking Defender of the Fatherland Day.
He concluded that this is a strategically important task that must be completed within a short timeframe — within two years.
