Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan plans to introduce a program to support electric vehicles and implement driverless transport solutions. This was reported by Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, Innovations and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to the government, there are plans to launch a regulatory sandbox for driverless cars.
In addition, it is planned to attract international partners such as Waymo (Google), Tesla, Baidu, Mobileye, Yandex, and Huawei to test driverless technologies. As part of the project, test sites for pilot launches have been selected and regulatory legal acts have been developed.
"This will allow us to attract foreign investment in research, infrastructure, and production of components for autonomous vehicles. For example, in the UAE, the regulatory sandbox allowed WeRide and Cruise to test driverless taxis in Dubai, which accelerated the local digitalization of transport," the minister summarized.
According to Madiyev, there are also plans to develop the popularity of electric vehicles. The program includes developing infrastructure for electric vehicles and offering incentives for their purchase, such as discounts on parking and access to public transport lanes.
Earlier, Minister of Transport Marat Karabayev announced that an additional 4000 kilometers of toll sections will be introduced in 2025.
Considering that today such a system operates on only 3.2 thousand kilometers of roads throughout the country, the number of toll sections will more than double.
