According to Kazhydromet, temperatures have exceeded the norm by 1 to 6 degrees Celsius in most regions.
A new temperature record was set in Petropavlovsk on December 19, where the mercury rose to +1.3°C, surpassing the previous record of +0.8°C set in 1978.
Despite the warmth, the month was marked by significant temperature fluctuations. Mild spells were often followed by cold snaps, accompanied by frequent weather events such as snowstorms, blizzards, rain, strong winds, icy conditions, and fog.
For example, on December 15, 22 millimeters of snow fell in the Turkestan region's Shuuldak station, where the monthly norm is 77 millimeters. On December 29, Fort-Shevchenko station in the Mangystau region recorded 17 millimeters of rain, twice the normal amount. On December 13-14, hurricane-force winds reaching up to 40 meters per second were observed in the Zhetysu region at Zhalanashkol station, while winds of 36 meters per second were recorded at Dostyk station on December 16.
Additionally, between December 4 and 8, Rodnikovka station in the Aktobe region reported ice and frost deposits with diameters reaching 66 millimeters.
In Astana, the average temperature for December was -8.8°C, 3.2 degrees above the norm. The lowest temperature of the month, -20.8°C, was recorded on December 11, while the highest temperature of 0.7°C occurred on December 14. Precipitation levels in Astana were above normal, with 31 millimeters recorded compared to the monthly norm of 25 millimeters, amounting to 122 percent of the usual level.
Previously, meteorologists forecasted that Kazakhstan would experience an anomalous winter with sharp temperature fluctuations and challenging weather conditions.
