Tengrinews.kz - Experienced Kazakhstani rescuer Bakhyt Danabekov shared useful tips for staying safe during extreme heat.

With rising summer temperatures, the risks of overheating and dehydration increase significantly, so it's important to follow a few simple but effective guidelines.

Avoid going outside during peak heat

“Stay out of direct sunlight, especially between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. — that’s when the sun is at its strongest and most dangerous,” said Danabekov.

Don’t skip putting on a hat

Going out without head protection increases the risk of heatstroke. A wide-brimmed hat or light cap will help.

“Don’t forget a hat and sunglasses — they protect you not only from overheating but also from skin burns and eye damage,” the expert added.

Never leave children or pets in a car

Even for a few minutes. This simple rule can prevent tragedy.

“Never leave children or animals inside a closed car. Even for a short time — it can be deadly,” warned the rescuer.

Avoid outdoor workouts during peak heat

Physical activity should be scheduled for early morning or evening when it's cooler — even walks.

“Postpone physical exertion. Heavy work or workouts are better done in the morning or late evening,” said Danabekov.

Stay hydrated

This is one of the most important summer safety rules. Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty. Choose clean drinking water over sugary sodas or coffee.

“Avoid ice-cold drinks. Choose cool, but not too cold water. Don’t overdo cold alcohol either — it gives a false sense of refreshment while accelerating dehydration,” he noted.

Watch your car’s condition

Drivers should be extra cautious in the heat.

“Engine overheating, fluid leaks, or unusual smells are signs that something needs to be checked immediately,” he advised.

Follow medical advice

People with chronic conditions like hypertension, heart disease, or allergies should carefully follow their doctor’s guidance in hot weather.

He also reminded everyone to take weather alerts from emergency services (number 112) seriously and dress appropriately for the heat.
