Residents of the capital once again received mass SMS alerts warning of severe weather expected on Victory Day.
According to Kazhydromet, Astana will see thunderstorms and hail on May 9. Winds from the southwest are forecast to gust at 15–18 m/s during the day.
Astana's Emergency Situations Department confirmed that a storm alert has been declared in the city.
In the Akmola region, forecasters predict thunderstorms in the west, north, and south during the night, and across most of the region during the day. Fog is expected at night and in the early morning in the northern areas. During the day, hail is likely in the western, northern, and southern parts of the region. Southwest winds are expected to reach 15–20 m/s in the morning and afternoon in the west, south, and east of the region. A high risk of wildfires remains in those areas.
In Kokshetau, fog is expected during the night and morning of May 9, with intermittent thunderstorms and hail in the morning and afternoon.
