The session will take place on Friday, June 26, in Astana.
"In accordance with subparagraph 2 of paragraph 4 of Article 58 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a joint session of the Chambers of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be convened on June 26, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the city of Astana," the text of the order states.
The agenda for the upcoming session has not yet been specified.
Context
The previous joint session of the Mazhilis and Senate was held on May 20. At that time, deputies passed in the second reading six constitutional laws — concerning the President, the Kurultai and the status of its deputies, the Kazakhstan Khalyk Kenesi, the status of the capital, administrative-territorial structure, as well as a package of amendments bringing other constitutional laws into alignment with the new Constitution.
Kazakhstan's new Constitution will come into force on July 1, 2026. According to the previously adopted law, the Kurultai will become the successor to the current bicameral Parliament. Elections for deputies of the new unicameral legislature are scheduled to take place in August.
