Tengrinews.kz – Several districts of Almaty were left without electricity following bad weather and heavy snowfall.
What happened
According to the outage map of Alatau Zharyk Company, disruptions began overnight on November 4. The map shows:
- Nauryzbay District: residents near Zhandosov, Alexey Khegay, Dauletkerey, Aitmatov, and Kunaev streets were left without power.
- Bostandyk District: outages occurred near Tauke Khan, Zhanaru, Ladushkin, and Baykonur streets, as well as in the Ermensai, Baganashyl, and Askartau neighborhoods.
- Almaly District: power disruptions were recorded near Abay Avenue.
- Auezov District: outages were reported around Baurzhan Momyshuly Street and nearby blocks.
There are also dozens of smaller outage spots throughout the city.
Readers report that some traffic lights are not functioning, causing traffic congestion across Almaty.

Company statement
Alatau Zharyk Company confirmed that around 8:00 a.m. on November 5, a technical fault occurred at Substation PS-4 (2). The automatic protection system was triggered, leading to the shutdown of one power transmission line.
“This resulted in a temporary power outage in parts of the Bostandyk District — along Abay, Bayzakov, Mukanov, and Kabanbai Batyr streets,” the company said.
Power has since been fully restored, the company assured.

Snowfall began in Almaty around 8 p.m. on November 4. Social media quickly filled with videos and photos showing the city’s streets, parks, and rooftops blanketed in snow.
