Tengrinews.kz — Social media is increasingly filled with footage of an endless field of yellow flowers not far from Almaty. This spring location has already attracted dozens of nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
Where the field is located
According to a resident of Almaty named Nadezhda, this place has been gaining popularity during the blooming season for several years now. She said the field is located about one to one and a half hours from the city, near the turnoff to Charyn Canyon.
“If it bloomed around April 16 in 2024, then last year it was already on the 12th, and this year photos appeared online as early as the 4th,” she said.

According to the traveler, the trip can easily be combined with a visit to the canyon.
“The scent in the steppe is amazing — it makes you want to breathe it in as much as possible,” she shared.
Some tourists also describe the location as the Kokpek area, not far from the village of the same name.
What to take with you
Thirty-three-year-old traveler Samgar, who also went there after seeing posts on social media, advised preparing in advance for the trip.
“Before the trip, I needed a hat and sunscreen,” he recommended.

The spring sun in the steppe can be quite strong, so tourists are also advised to bring water, wear comfortable shoes, and charge their phones or cameras for photos. Samgar admitted that next time he wants to come there specifically for a photo shoot.
“There is a beautiful moment in every season. I want to capture that moment in photos or videos and show it to the world. Travel has its difficulties, but I enjoy doing it,” he said.
The downside of popularity
According to tourists, the location is quickly becoming more popular. Nadezhda noted that during her trip people behaved carefully: they took photos and then left.
“But I’ve already seen videos where cars are driving not on the road, but straight across the steppe and flowers,” she added.
Samgar also confirmed that there were many visitors on the day of his trip.
“There were a lot of people. I didn’t notice any police officers there,” he said.
As the travelers noted, the growing tourist flow may become the main risk for this natural location.
