“Risk of Armageddon is high“ – Tokayev on the threat of nuclear conflict

Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana.

In his address, Tokayev spoke about the complex geopolitical situation and the growing risk of nuclear conflict.

“The risk of nuclear conflict is alarming. Experts assess the likelihood of such an Armageddon as the highest in recent decades. Unfortunately, instead of constructive initiatives and détente, confrontational thinking is gaining momentum in the world, geopolitical rifts are widening, and social tensions are rising,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Given this challenging global climate, the President emphasized that constructive diplomacy must play a central role as the main tool for fostering dialogue, overcoming alienation, and building trust on the international stage.

“We also place great hope in religious leaders, who bear a special responsibility for advancing intercivilizational exchange and strengthening trust between people and societies. I am confident that religious leaders will do everything in their power to prevent the world from sliding into the abyss of chaos, reminding many politicians of common sense, goodwill, and moral responsibility,” Tokayev added.
