Residents of Almaty and Konaev in the Almaty region also reported feeling tremors.
"On November 25, 2024, at 11:45 p.m. Astana time, the seismic stations network of the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under Kazakhstan’s MES recorded an earthquake in the Zhetysu region," the agency said in a statement.
No casualties or damage have been reported, the MES added.
Further details revealed that the earthquake's epicenter was located 257 kilometers northeast of Almaty.
The estimated intensity of the tremors in various locations was as follows:
- Almaty: 2 points
- Zharkent: 3 points
- Chundzha village: 4 points
- Tekeli: 3 points
- Kyrgyzsai village: 2 points
- Karabulak settlement: 2 points
- Zhansugurov village: 2 points
- Kokpek village: 2 points
- Sarkand city: 2 points
- Taldykorgan: 2 points
Specialists from "Kazselezashchita" Agency conducted monitoring of riverbeds, hydraulic structures, landslide-prone, and mudflow-prone areas. Additionally, they visually inspected critical infrastructure for potential damage.
According to the MES, no damage was found, and all facilities are operating as usual.
"No information about casualties or destruction has been received. The situation remains stable," the ministry’s press service stated.
