A total of 6,339,425 citizens participated in the referendum, exceeding 50% of eligible voters, which amounts to 12,244,683 people.
"It is important to note that according to paragraph 2, article 31 of the Constitutional Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan 'On Republican Referendum,' a referendum is considered valid if more than half of eligible citizens participate," said Sabila Mustafina, a member of the Central Election Commission.
Today, Kazakhstan held a referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant. Voting began at 7:00 on October 6 and will continue until 20:00. Over 80 polling stations opened at 6:00. In total, there are more than 10,000 polling stations across the country. The first stations to open were located abroad, in Seoul and Tokyo.
All citizens of Kazakhstan aged 18 or older on the day of the referendum have the right to vote. Ballots are printed in both Kazakh and Russian. Voters are asked to answer the following question: "Do you agree with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?" The two possible answers are: "Yes, I agree" and "No, I do not agree."
According to the Constitutional Law, each voter must cast their ballot personally, with exceptions made only for those unable to vote independently.
