According to the Bureau of National Statistics, in the first 9 months of 2024, 1 451 people from China and 1 088 from Mongolia arrived in Kazakhstan for permanent residence. This is 177% and 172% more than in the same period last year, and the highest figures in recent years: from China - since 2017, from Mongolia - since 2011. Nothing similar to the current figures has been observed all this time. At the same time, not many people move from Kazakhstan to Mongolia and China.
As noted by the First Credit Bureau, the vast majority of migrants (98% from China and 99% from Mongolia) are ethnic Kazakhs. Half of the migrants from China chose Almaty or Astana for life, another 20% settled in the Almaty region. Among those from Mongolia, the Akmola region has become a popular destination.
In total, in the first 3 quarters of 2024, Kazakhstan received 20.4 thousand immigrants (from all countries), which is 6.5% more than in the same period last year. 10.2 thousand people left the country, which is 20% less than in 2023.
Earlier, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has developed new rules for the relocation of repatriates (kandas) and internal migrants.
