Tengrinews.kz - Residents of the Almaty region were alarmed by emergency warnings about an air raid and radiation danger broadcasted from loudspeakers on poles.
The messages, heard by residents of the city of Esik, were recorded and widely shared among family and friends. The first warning mentioned an air raid alert, followed by a second one about radiation danger.
The Emergency Situations Department of the Almaty region provided clarification on the incident.
"During the siren and voice alert system test, a scenario meant to notify the public about an earthquake was initiated. However, a technical malfunction occurred during the message playback. Our specialists are currently working on resolving the issue," the department noted.
Earlier, an earthquake struck Almaty and the surrounding region on November 5 at 10:01 a.m. Astana time. The epicenter was located in Kazakhstan, 33 kilometers east of Almaty. The tremors were felt in Almaty with a magnitude of 3. Shortly afterward, emergency warning systems on poles in the Almaty region activated with urgent messages.
