Tengrinews.kz - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the eve of Republic Day signed a decree awarding state honors to several citizens. Military personnel and law enforcement officers received orders and medals for saving human lives.

Lieutenant Colonel Denis Shemet, Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the 3477 National Guard Unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was awarded the "Aibyn" II degree order named after Baurzhan Momyshuly for shielding a sergeant from a grenade during a training exercise. Thanks to Shemet's actions, the soldier was unharmed, but the lieutenant colonel sustained injuries to his back and pelvis. Lieutenant Colonel Shemet has since returned to service.

In July, Denis Shemet received one million tenge award for his heroic act as part of the "Izgi Zhurek" prize.

On the day of the incident, he was walking along the Ulba River embankment in Ust-Kamenogorsk with a friend when he spotted a drowning person on the opposite bank.

After driving to the scene, Permabek swam to the girl and pulled her out of the water.

"She was barely holding onto a tree branch. I swam along the willow, grabbed her by the wrist, and dragged her to the shore. Since the current was strong, we feared the branch might not support our weight. However, everything ended well," Zhanasbek said after the rescue.

For his brave act, the soldier was awarded the "Aibyn" III degree order named after Rakhimzhan Koshkarbayev.

Senior operative officer Birzhan Myrzaliev, of the Department of Criminal Police, was awarded the "Zhaungerlik Erligishin" medal for successfully conducting a special operation in Ukraine to dismantle call centers involved in internet fraud.

In April this year, Eldos Koyken saved a mother of two who was drowning in the Irtysh River. After receiving the signal and arriving at the scene, the inspector immediately jumped in to help.

"When I saw that she was drowning, there was no time to think. I ran to the water, removing what I could along the way. As I got closer, she was almost completely underwater. Honestly, I didn't even feel fear, I just thought, 'I wish she hadn't drowned.' I grabbed her and pulled her out of the water," the police officer said.

For his heroic act, the policeman was awarded the "Yerligi Ushin" medal.

Another serviceman, Sanat Serekkaliuly, was also awarded the "For Bravery" medal for saving a child born in 2013, who was being swept away by a fast-flowing river.

Other recipients of the "Yerligi Ushin" medal include Senior Officer of the Military Police Division of Military Unit 6697 Alimzhan Rustemov, for saving a teenager from falling from a high-rise; Inspector of the Administrative Police Department in Aktobe, Farkhat Nurmanov, for saving a teenager from water; Police Inspector Damir Korganbayev from Atyrau for rescuing a teenager from a fire; and Rapid Response Inspector Yernar Sailauov from Karaganda for helping a girl who had lost consciousness on the street.
