Tengrinews.kz - The Head of State reviewed the preparations for the 5th World Nomad Games, according to Akorda.
The World Nomad Games are an international competition featuring ethnic sports. The main mission of the games is the development of ethno-cultural movement, the promotion, and preservation of nomadic peoples' games.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reviewed the preparations for the games, which will be held from September 8 to 13 in Astana.
The head of state visited the "Astana Arena" stadium, where the opening ceremony of the international competition will take place.
Over the year, major renovations were carried out, and the equipment was updated. The works on the improvement of the facility, which accommodates 30,000 spectators, have been completed.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also inspected the accreditation center located at the 'Qazaqstan' athletics complex. The President was shown the national team’s uniform for the Nomad Games.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzhikpaev, 42 training camps have been conducted at international and national levels to date. Our athletes have participated in 7 international and 25 national tournaments.
“2,800 athletes from 89 countries will participate in the 5th World Nomad Games. 97 medals in 21 sports will be awarded. The competitions will take place at the ‘Astana Arena’ stadium, ‘Qazanat’ hippodrome, ‘Alau’ Ice Palace, Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Palace of Martial Arts, and ‘Duman’ hotel,” the Akorda press service reported.
More than 150 cultural events are planned alongside the Games. Specifically, an Ethno-Village will host a Museum of Nomadic Civilization, a Craftsmen's Town, and a Sculpture Exhibition. Additionally, the National Museum will hold an international scientific-practical conference titled "Nomads: History, Knowledge, Lessons.”
According to preliminary forecasts, about 100 000 tourists may visit the capital these days. In preparation, more than 20 hotels and popular locations are being readied, with active efforts underway to improve and decorate the city's streets.
