Tengrinews.kz – The Bureau of National Statistics named the number of Kazakhstanis as of January 1, 2025, and also listed the most densely populated regions of the country.
According to the Bureau, at the beginning of the year, 20 286 084 people lived in Kazakhstan. In 2024, the number of Kazakhstanis increased by 252 242 people.
More than a million people live in three cities and four regions of the republic. The most densely populated are Almaty and the Turkestan region - 2 292 333 and 2 154 334 people live there, respectively.
1.5 million Kazakhstanis live in Astana (1, 528 887 people) and Almaty region (1 560 377 people).
The cities and regions with a population of over one million also include Shymkent (1, 256 263 people), Zhambyl (1 222 513 people) and Karaganda (1 133 984 people) regions.
The highest population growth rate is demonstrated by Astana. In the capital, this figure was 6.91%. For comparison: in Almaty and Shymkent, these figures were 2.86 and 2.80%.
