Tengrinews.kz – Cyber police conducted an operation in four cities of Kazakhstan, with foreigners among those detained, citing Polisia.kz.
According to the police, fraudsters are expanding the geography of SIM-box placements. While these devices were previously found mainly in major cities, criminals have now begun installing them in less populated regions.
In just one day, cyber police units, in cooperation with the prosecutor's office and mobile operators, carried out operations in the cities of Balkhash, Taraz, Ekibastuz, and Petropavlovsk to curb illegal SIM-box activities. Four individuals were detained, two of whom are citizens of a neighboring country.
During searches, six SIM-box devices, more than 24,500 SIM cards, and peripheral equipment were seized.

The detainees face up to 10 years in prison for aiding internet fraudsters.
A SIM-box is a device that allows criminals to operate from anywhere in the world while making calls through national mobile operators, as long as the equipment is installed within the country and uses local mobile network traffic.
