Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov visited Degelen testing platform of Semipalatinsk testing site, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Prime-Minister's Facebook. “Scientific-research tests in radio-ecology, geochemistry of radioactive elements and radio-biology are being made Degelen. It is a unique facility for research and performing works on elimination of consequences of nuclear tests in Kazakhstan,” Massimov's page writes. Semipalatinsk nuclear site was closed on August 29, 1991. 456 nuclear tests had been made during the period of its existence since 1947. The polygon's area is 18.5 thousand square km. Once-limited-access town of Kurchatov is located at the territory of the site. Massimov also visited Kurchatov during his trip to East-Kazakhstan oblast on June 22.
