Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee (NSC) intercepted an attempt to smuggle over 500,000 packs of cigarettes into the country.
On February 5, border guards in the village of Karasu, Zhambyl region, halted the illegal transportation of a large batch of cigarettes. According to the NSC, more than 535,000 packs were being brought in from a neighboring country without proper documentation.
Preliminary estimates value the seized goods at over 187 million tenge. The cargo has been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
Earlier, the Aktau City Court sentenced the organizer of a major smuggling operation. The individual, who had been on an international wanted list, was extradited from Azerbaijan at the request of Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office.
