Tengrinews.kz – A significant increase in the number of road accidents was registered in 2024 - by 98.9% compared to the previous year in Kazakhstan. Such data is provided by the Committee on Legal Statistics and Special Records of the Prosecutor General's Office.

During the reporting period, the number of road accidents reached 31 597, resulting in 43 452 casualties. Of the casualties, 40 873 were injured and 2579 were killed. The increase in the number of injured was 109%, and the number of fatalities was 1.4%.

The largest number of casualties was recorded in:

  • Almaty - 7475 people;
  • Astana - 2198 people;
  • Shymkent - 2123 people;
  • Almaty region - 4749 people;
  • Zhambyl region - 3284 people;
  • Aktobe region - 2584 people.

Moreover, the largest number of fatalities was recorded in:

  • Almaty region - 379 people;
  • Turkestan region - 269 people;
  • Zhambyl region - 264 people.
  • Karaganda region - 191 people;
  • Aktobe region - 166 people.

One of the reasons for such an increase in statistics was previously explained by the Chairman of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Kaisar Sultanbaev. Now the statistics include all cases when accident participants sought medical assistance, regardless of the presence of harm to health.

Previously, only cases of confirmed medical harm to health were registered.

"Now all accidents that resulted in people seeking medical attention are included in the records, regardless of whether there was harm to health or not," explained law enforcement representative Sultanbayev.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that they had considered the issue of road safety, which is relevant, especially in the context of the growing number of cars, increased traffic density and the need to improve infrastructure.

"Over the past year, over 30 thousand traffic accidents have been registered. Taking into account the shortcomings, law enforcement officers have been instructed to step up work with road organizations, local executive bodies to improve the safety of road infrastructure, and also to ensure targeted work with malicious violators of traffic rules using digital capabilities," Polisia.kz reported.
