Tengrinews.kz - The Border Service of the National Security Committee (NSC) has detained over 90 citizens of Kazakhstan at border crossing points who also held citizenship of another country, according to the press service of the KNB.
Since the beginning of 2025, the Border Service of the NSC has identified 91 cases of border crossings by individuals who simultaneously held citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan and another country.
"The detained individuals have been handed over to the police for further investigation," the statement says.
It is noted that in 2024, 1,190 cases of dual citizenship were identified at the state border. Most of the violations were committed by citizens of neighboring countries.
The Border Service of the NSC reminds that, in accordance with Kazakhstani law, dual citizenship is punishable by a fine of up to 300 MRP (monthly calculation index) or administrative expulsion. Moreover, acquiring the citizenship of another country is a direct ground for losing Kazakhstani citizenship.
Earlier, police officers, in collaboration with the National Security Committee’s Border Service, detained three passengers for violating Kazakhstan's citizenship laws at Karaganda Airport.
