Tengrinews.kz - The National Security Committee (NSC), in coordination with prosecutorial authorities, has detained four individuals in Astana, the Abai region, the Aktobe region, and the Turkestan region.
The operation, aimed at curbing the activities of religious radicals, was conducted in April.
"Four citizens of Kazakhstan have been detained on suspicion of promoting terrorism and inciting religious hatred, including through social media. One of the suspects has a prior conviction. During searches at their residences, material evidence was seized. Pre-trial investigations are underway under Articles 174 and 256 of the Criminal Code," the NSC reported.
Other details are not subject to disclosure in accordance with Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In addition, in previously investigated cases by the NSC, courts have handed down guilty verdicts to three residents of the Aktobe, Karaganda, and Turkestan regions. The convicted individuals were found to have promoted terrorism and religious extremism through social media and within their communities.
Previously, the NSC released an update on efforts to seize illegal weapons.
