Tengrinews.kz - During an expanded government meeting, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov announced that agreements for the construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant would be finalized soon.
"In the near future, we will sign the necessary agreements for the construction of the first nuclear power plant (NPP) in the Almaty region. Additionally, an analysis is nearing completion to identify locations for the construction of the second and third nuclear power plants in the regions," the prime minister stated.
Previously, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the need to expedite decisions regarding the construction of nuclear power plants.
"Regarding the construction of nuclear power plants – we need to speed up. I already mentioned in an interview that we will build two large stations, possibly three. We must turn Kazakhstan into a country with a developed nuclear energy sector, a country where artificial intelligence operates and full digitalization is in place," concluded Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
In November 2024, the Ministry of Energy announced the start of negotiations with potential suppliers of nuclear power plant construction technologies.
Today's meeting will summarize the country's socio-economic development for 2024, and define key tasks for the near future. Reports will be made by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Chairman of the National Bank Timur Suleimenov, as well as akims of a number of regions.
