Tengrinews.kz – The government held a discussion on measures to ensure the security of Kazakhstanis' personal data.
In particular, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov emphasized that the number of online fraud cases has been increasing recently, including incidents involving the leakage of citizens’ personal data. He asked what measures are being taken in this area.
"First: we launched a government service for monitoring access to personal data. Over 70 percent of government information systems have been connected to it. The service collects consents and notifies citizens when their personal data is accessed. Second: we coordinate efforts with mobile network operators. Anti-fraud centers have been established to detect and block scam calls. These centers are integrated with the National Bank’s anti-fraud center," said Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry Zhaslan Madiyev during the government meeting.
According to him, biometric registration is being introduced for the purchase of new SIM cards. There will also be liability for the unlawful transfer of SIM cards to third parties and for the illegal use of SIM boxes.
"As I mentioned before, the 'STOP Credit' service has been launched. It is actively used by the public. Third: legislation has toughened the penalties for violating personal data protection. We've developed a number of other provisions to complicate fraudsters' activities and limit their actions. These are currently under review by members of Parliament. We will continue working in this direction," the minister promised.
