Of this number, 3.9 million are enrolled in schools, 556,000 study in colleges, and more than 1 million attend preschool institutions.
According to the Ministry of Education, 82 percent of orphans in the country are raised in Kazakh families. In 2024, more than 3,000 children found new homes, 330 adults became mentors, and the staff of guardianship authorities increased 2.5 times. A new form of foster care — the professional foster family system — will be introduced starting July 1, 2025.
