Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev commented on the work of Kazakhstan's National Bank.
Following a report by National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov at the extended government meeting, Tokayev noted that while the regulator is operating as usual, concerns remain—particularly regarding the volatility of the national currency.
"Experts anticipate pressure on the tenge due to the strengthening of the US dollar. Ensuring currency stability and curbing inflation is crucial work—if not the primary task—that must be carried out in close cooperation with the government. The previous stance that we are independent and self-sufficient no longer works in the current extraordinary situation. I will elaborate on this later," Tokayev stated.
An extended government meeting is taking place in Astana with the participation of the Head of State. Officials will review the country's socio-economic development results for 2024 and outline key priorities for the near future. Presentations will be given by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov, and several regional akims (governors).
