Tengrinews.kz — Pre-holiday rush has paralyzed traffic on the border of Kazakhstan and Russia in the Aktobe region. A multi-kilometer traffic jam has formed at the Sagarchin checkpoint in recent days, citing the KTK.

According to the TV channel, thousands of Central Asian citizens are rushing home for Kurban Ait, leading to a massive buildup of vehicles.

It is reported that a long column of vehicles has formed on the Russian side heading toward the Aktobe region. Those wishing to cross the border are forced to spend long hours waiting.

Kazakhstani services maintain that they are not to blame, explaining that the difficulties arose on the Russian side. The pre-holiday traffic flow is creating additional strain.

Some passengers, unable to endure the long wait under the scorching sun, are leaving their cars behind. They cross the border on foot and then look for taxis on the other side to continue their journey. Officials assure that the checkpoint will be cleared shortly.

"The aforementioned congestion is observed on the Russian side and is primarily associated with the return of Central Asian citizens migrant workers—to their homelands ahead of the Kurban Bayram celebrations. The buildup is also due to the lack of separate lanes for trucks and passenger vehicles," noted the State Revenue Department for the Aktobe region.

We previously reported that Kazakhstan plans to introduce new requirements for vehicle waiting zones at state border crossings. According to the Ministry of Transport, the document is currently under consideration.
