What happened

During a mass climbing event to Panfilov Heroes Peak (4,120 meters), one of the participants, born in 2008, fell ill.

According to preliminary data, he was diagnosed with acute mountain sickness and pulmonary edema.

Rescue efforts

Rescuers from the Almaty Department of Emergency Situations, who were ensuring the safety of the event, provided the victim with first aid and then brought him down to the area of Moraine Lake No. 6 named after Manshuk Mametova.

For the further rescue operation and urgent evacuation, rescuers from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ “Barys” Republican Rescue Service and a Kazaviaspas helicopter were deployed. Thanks to their coordinated actions, the victim was delivered to the Medeu helipad.

After that, staff from the Center for Disaster Medicine transported him to City Hospital No. 12 in Almaty for examination and treatment.

The victim’s condition is assessed as moderately severe, and he remains conscious.
