Tengrinews.kz - A camera trap in the Shaldai Pine Forest, Pavlodar Region, has captured a rare and heartwarming scene — a moose family in the wild. The footage quickly spread online
The video
The clip was shared on the official page of the Yertis Ormany Nature Reserve. The Shaldai Forest is considered a unique habitat for moose.
“The camera recorded an amazing moment: a mother moose with her calves peacefully drinking from a pond, when a large bull moose with impressive antlers slowly approached them,” the reserve staff said.
According to their data, more than 240 moose currently live in the area.
What do moose eat?
Reserve specialists explained that moose feed mainly on plants, with their diet changing by season:
In the summer: leaves of birch, aspen, willow, various grasses, aquatic plants like water lilies, and young shoots.
In the winter: tree bark and branches (willow, aspen, birch), small amounts of pine and spruce needles, hay, and salt licks — especially near feeding stations.
Earlier, another camera trap recorded a moose with her calves at a watering hole in the Pavlodar region.
