Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection commented on the rescheduling of weekends and public holidays in Kazakhstan.

Context

The legal framework for holidays celebrated in Kazakhstan is regulated by the law on public holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Previously, the calendar for the following year was approved by a government decree. Later, these functions were transferred to the Ministry of Labor, which, in turn, began announcing some holiday reschedules not in advance but shortly before they occurred. The Tengrinews.kz editorial team sought clarification on the reasoning behind this practice.

What the Ministry of Labor said

According to the Labor Code, to ensure the rational use of working time during public holidays and weekends, the authorized labor body has the right to reschedule days off to other working days.

"It should be noted that the rescheduling of weekends to other working days is determined on a case-by-case basis," the ministry stated in response to an official inquiry by Tengrinews.kz.

In November last year, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Svetlana Zhakupova signed an order to reschedule a day off in 2025. According to the document, the rest day from Sunday, January 5, was moved to Friday, January 3. No other rescheduling is planned for 2025. We previously covered this in detail here.
