Tengrinews.kz - Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov commented on the issue of sanctions imposed on Kazakhstani companies.

It was recently reported that several companies from Kazakhstan were included in the UK sanctions list.

"As far as I remember, two of the companies on this list had already been subject to American sanctions. These are shell companies that open, sign a contract, and disappear. Western financial services simply record them and add them to the sanctions list," explained Nurlan Baibazarov.

According to the minister, the fact that Kazakhstani companies try to circumvent sanctions is "not a systemic issue."

"These are various companies that are pursuing profit. It is difficult to counter this, but overall we will comply with the restrictions that we have agreed upon with the relevant American and European sanction control agencies," Baibazarov added.

The UK government website reported that as part of the sanctions against Russia due to military actions in Ukraine, restrictions were imposed on 56 individuals and entities. This is noted as the largest sanctions package since May 2023, affecting 56 entities, including companies from Kazakhstan, China, and Turkey, as well as private military groups linked to the Kremlin. The list of companies is available here.
