Tengrinews.kz - Residents of Almaty felt a mild earthquake with a magnitude of 2, according to the press service of the Ministry for Emergency Situations (MES) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"On October 17, 2024, at 03:23 a.m. Astana time, a seismic event was recorded by the network of seismic stations at the National Scientific Center for Seismological Monitoring and Research under MES. The epicenter was located in China, 264 kilometers southeast of Almaty," the MES statement said.
The ministry confirmed that the earthquake was felt in Almaty with a magnitude of 2. No reports of injuries or damage have been received.
It is also worth noting that earthquake preparedness drills will be conducted in Almaty on October 17. As part of the drill, the Department of Emergency Situations of Almaty announced that at 10:00 a.m., sirens will be activated, TV and radio channels will be interrupted, and notifications will be sent via mobile apps to test the alert system.
