Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan's Ministry of Healthcare has appealed to the World Health Organization (WHO) in connection with the spread of metapneumovirus (HMPV) worldwide. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister Tamara Duisenova.

As the Deputy Prime Minister explained, it is important to carry out preventive measures at the moment.

"The other day, the Ministry of Healthcare voiced its opinion on this issue. The Ministry of Healthcare made an official request to the WHO. A response was received - not only for us, but also for other countries. The WHO said that there is no need to panic, this virus has been circulating in countries for decades. We proceed from this. In general, this is a common phenomenon. Referring to the WHO, I say again that this is a normal period that we must survive together," Duisenova said.

Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a virus that affects the respiratory tract and causes inflammation of the upper and lower lungs. The virus was first detected in the Netherlands in 2001, but according to some reports, it has been circulating among people since the 1950s.

Earlier, an outbreak of human metapneumovirus was recorded in China. According to the Chinese Administration for Disease Control and Prevention, this virus has become the second most common after influenza, with both cases showing an increase in the number of cases compared to the previous week.

The Ministry of Healthcare commented on media reports about the spread of metapneumovirus (HMPV) worldwide.
