Tengrinews.kz - Teens on Instagram are no longer allowed to do everything - for some actions they will need to ask permission from their parents, according to SkyNews.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO and co-founder of the Meta group, which owns Instagram, has introduced new rules for teenagers. Now users under 16 will not be able to go live without parental permission.
In addition, if a teenager wants to turn off the function that automatically blurs images with possible nudity in messages, he will also need adult approval.
These changes became part of the updated system of teenage accounts. Meta said that such measures will now apply not only to Instagram, but also to Facebook and Messenger.
In September last year, Meta launched a special Teen Account program for Instagram. It was created so that parents could better monitor how their children use the social network.
The company took this step after more and more people began to criticize social networks for their negative impact on teenagers. Currently, Meta says, about 54 million teens worldwide have been transferred to these special accounts. The new rules will first go into effect in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.
Instagram has previously introduced other safety measures for teens:
- Accounts are set to private by default;
- Strangers cannot write to you in private messages;
- Sensitive content is limited;
- Reminders to take breaks are displayed;
- The number of notifications is reduced at night so that teens can sleep peacefully.
