Tengrinews.kz - Migration service officers deported a resident of the Borodulikha district in the Abai region for holding dual citizenship.
According to the regional police department, the 54-year-old man became a Russian citizen in June of this year but did not formally renounce his Kazakh citizenship.
"The court ruled to hold the violator accountable under Article 496, Part 2 of the Administrative Code, resulting in his deportation from the Republic of Kazakhstan," said the police in an official statement.
The authorities confiscated the violator’s Kazakh passport and officially processed the loss of his Kazakh citizenship.
The police reminded the public that dual citizenship is prohibited in Kazakhstan and urged citizens to comply with migration laws.
"Citizens must notify the authorities within 30 days if they plan to obtain another country’s citizenship and surrender their Kazakh passport and ID," the statement added.
The department explained that some residents of the Abai region have been neglecting this process, leading to an increase in dual citizenship cases. In the past eight months, migration service officers identified 10 such violators in the region.
"The motives for obtaining dual citizenship vary: some seek the ability to emigrate quickly in emergencies, while others aim for financial benefits like pensions, childbirth allowances, or favorable conditions for university admissions," the department elaborated.
