Tengrinews.kz - Authorities in Astana are considering adjusting the start times for certain organizations in an effort to ease traffic congestion during peak hours, according to the akim (governor) of the capital, Zhenis Kassymbek.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event at Akorda, Kassymbek said that a traffic flow analysis is currently underway across various districts of the city.
“We are analyzing transport flows in different areas and exploring multiple options to address congestion. One such option is to change the start, lunch, or end times of the working day for specific sectors or districts,” he explained.
One proposal under review suggests that government bodies, budget-funded institutions, and municipal services could begin their workday at 8:30 a.m.
“This would ease the burden on public transport and roads leading up to 9 a.m. Such practices are widely used around the world. In fact, some institutions and companies in our city already operate from 8 a.m., and that’s perfectly fine,” Kassymbek noted.
He added that the analysis is expected to be completed by the end of the month, and if a decision is made, an announcement could be made in August.
Earlier, Zhenis Kassymbek announced that the first light rail transit (LRT) trains had arrived in Astana.
