Tengrinews.kz - The first light rail transit (LRT) trains have arrived in Astana, the capital’s akim (governor) Zhenis Kassymbek told journalists.
According to the akim, the technical launch of the LRT system is scheduled for September this year, with full operation expected by spring 2026.
"Yesterday, the first two trains arrived. All trains are expected to be delivered by the end of the summer. We plan to begin technical testing in September. Then, as per regulations, commissioning work will take three to six months. We hope to complete this stage by the end of the year — roughly between January and February. Our goal is to have passengers start using the service by the end of the first quarter," Kassymbek said on the sidelines of an event at the Akorda.
Earlier, Zhenis Kassymbek responded to a question about the possible cost of a single LRT ride.
