Tengrinews.kz – Rescuers carried out a night operation to bring down an 18-year-old tourist from the mountains near Almaty after he called the city’s Emergency Situations Department.
The young man reported that he had gone hiking with friends during the day but fell behind the group and lost his way, without having a flashlight with him.
“A crew from the BAU rescue checkpoint arrived at the Prokhodnoe Gorge parking area in a service vehicle and then spent about three hours on foot searching for the caller. The victim was eventually found near the Terra clearing and escorted to the foot of the mountain,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
Rescuers reported that by the time he was found, the inexperienced tourist was cold and showing signs of mountain sickness and disorientation.
Fortunately, he did not require serious medical assistance — after descending, he was able to return home on his own, the ministry noted.
Rescuers reminded hikers of the importance of planning their route in advance, taking into account their experience and physical abilities.
Earlier in Kyrgyzstan, military helicopters were deployed to rescue citizens of several countries, including Kazakhstan. The Ministry of Defense of Kyrgyzstan carried out an operation to rescue and evacuate climbers in the area of Mount Pobeda and Khan Tengri.
