Tengrinews.kz - The Bureau of National Statistics has announced the population of Kazakhstan as of February 1, 2025, and listed the country's most densely populated regions.
According to the bureau, 20,300,618 people were living in Kazakhstan at the beginning of February. Over the course of a month, the country’s population grew by 14,534 people.
Three cities and four regions in the country have populations exceeding one million. The most densely populated areas are Almaty and the Turkestan region, with 2,297,491 and 2,154,144 residents, respectively.
Astana and the Almaty region each have a population of over 1.5 million, with 1,536,924 and 1,562,402 residents, respectively.
Other cities and regions with more than one million residents include Shymkent (1,258,878 people), Zhambyl region (1,221,808 people), and Karaganda region (1,133,707 people).
Astana recorded the highest population growth rate at 0.53 percent. For comparison, the growth rates in Almaty and Shymkent were 0.23 and 0.21 percent, respectively.
A total of 12,795,502 Kazakhstanis reside in urban areas, while 7,505,116 people live in rural areas.
Previously, the Bureau of National Statistics named the number of Kazakhstanis as of January 1, 2025.
