Tengrinews.kz – The Bureau of National Statistics has reported how many people were living in Kazakhstan as of 1 December 2025.
According to the Bureau, the population of Kazakhstan reached 20,478,879 people. At the beginning of the year, 20,283,399 people were living in the country. The total population increase since the start of 2025 amounted to more than 195,480 people.
Most populous regions
The most densely populated regions are:
- Almaty – 2,345,012 people;
- Turkestan region – 2,148,168 people;
- Astana – 1,630,640 people;
- Almaty region – 1,592,652 people.
The regions with a population of more than one million include:
- Shymkent – 1,291,011 people;
- Zhambyl region – 1,215,892 people;
- Karaganda region – 1,131,438 people.
Least populated regions
At the same time, there are regions and cities in Kazakhstan where relatively few people live:
- Ulytau region – 219,200 people;
- North Kazakhstan region – 514,732 people;
- Abai region – 596,000 people.
Most residents of Kazakhstan still live in cities – 13,013,064 people. The rural population numbers 7,465,815 people.
